Thesis
What makes us wrong
the league, the club, or the buyer announces a delay or an unmet closing condition. Post-vote sales in this class close within weeks; a silence stretching past Thanksgiving is itself the tell.
Last week the open question was the vote. The owners answered it unanimously on August 26: the Khosla family buys the Seahawks at $9.612B. This call is the follow-through: the money actually moves by December 31.
The reference class is small but real, and it says the vote was the hard part. The league vettes a buyer's financing before it lets the owners vote, so post-vote closings are administrative. Washington 2023: approved July 20, closed July 21. Denver 2022: approved August 9, closed within days. Carolina 2018 is the slow case: approved in May, closed July 9, about 7 weeks. No recent NFL sale has failed or materially stalled after ratification.
90% against that class, not higher, because $9.612B is the largest price the league has transacted and size adds paperwork even when it does not add doubt. December 31 gives the process 4 months against a 2-month worst case in class. If this drags past Thanksgiving with no announcement, the kill condition above is already describing it.
- 1.2026-08-30Owners voted unanimously to approve the $9.612B sale to the Khosla family on 2026-08-26 (nfl.com, Yahoo Sports).
- 2.2026-08-30Reference class: Commanders approved 2023-07-20, closed 2023-07-21. Broncos approved 2022-08-09, closed within days. Panthers approved May 2018, closed 2018-07-09.
- 3.2026-08-30Graded on: the league's or the club's announcement that the sale has closed.
